“Melodyterranean” Is the name of the last music work by the Sicilian vibraphonist Giuseppe Mazzamuto, the record is fully composed and arranged by the composer himself. The album’s concept is about an Etno-Jazz music journey, putting into sounds two of the most world representative aspects of Italy: the Melody, and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Italian melody on first: the real artistic brand of the peninsula, from the Opera of Giacomo Puccini, moving to the folk Napolitan and Sicilian sounds. Furthermore artists and singers like Ernesto de Curtis, and Rosa Balistreri are a perfect example to match that aspect; the melody has always been a powerful way to let the rest of the world know about the Music of Italy, either it was classical, or folk-popular music.
The Mediterrean Sea on the other aspect, an everlasting symbol of the journey, a path of migration, and a cradle of the hospitality. Several people from different countries and cultures found themselves in Sicily over the centuries, making the Island a meeting point for all those populations. For that reason, Sicily will always be a common ground where you can merge all those artistic and creative features.
Giuseppe Mazzamuto (Vibraphone) leads the Etno-Jazz Sextet, performing “Melodyterrean”; he’s the Jazz Drums and Percussions’ teacher at the National Conservatory of Music in Palermo “V. Bellini”. The ensemble is also formed by musicians awarded in and outside Italy: Giovanni Conte (Piano) and Giovanni Villafranca (Doublebass), won the “National Arts Award 2013” Jazz Section. Simone Ferrara (Guitar) head-teacher of “MMI Modern Music Institute” in Palermo, he performed with Nicola Piovani and his Simphonic orchestra (composer of the movie soundtrack “La vita è bella” by Roberto Benigni). Manfredi Caputo (Percussions), 30.000$ Berklee’ Scolarship Winner in 2015, he performed at Umbria Jazz Festival. Fabrizio Giambanco (Drums), he’s been performing with several International artists on many European venues.
