WHAT’S THE STORY?: This, the sixth album from Swedish purveyors of heavy metal, Wolf, is a bombastic ride through non-apologetic, Judas Priest worshipping, proper heavy metal.Leaves' Eyes Official Homepage
Starting as it means to go on, ‘Legions of Bastards’ unashamedly kicks you in the face with a pair of size 12 leather boots, the twin guitar attack of Niklas Stålvind and Johannes Losbäck leading from the front, trading licks and solos over a relentless, pounding rhythm section.
Partying like it’s 1983, tracks like ‘Tales from the Crypt’, ‘Vicious Companion’ and highlight ‘Skull Crusher’ take you on a journey through your favourite heavy metal bands of the past, whilst simultaneously providing a refreshing change from the current musical climate.
Like most classic rock bands from the 70′s and 80′s, Wolf stick to the same formula they have used for the last 16 years, (even the cover artist is the same!) but this is no bad thing, as it really works for them, the Rob Halford-like vocals cut through the battling lead lines like razor wire and the driving rhythms will have metalheads everywhere headbanging and air-guitaring until their heads fall off.
There is nothing here that hasn’t been done before, but that doesn’t matter, it’s music to have a good time to, and you know what they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and this definately does the job.
