Sistine Chapel Choir - Palestrina (2016)

Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525 –1594) was the ultimate Renaissance composer of sacred music. This recording of his Missa Papae Marcellii along with nine of his motets are here recorded in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican by the Sistine Chapel Choir conducted by Massimo Palombella. These works were composed to be performed in the Sistine Chapel, with its special acoustic and presence, and thus this recording is echt Palestrina.

The Choir is embellished by vocal lines as performed by Cezary Arkadiusz Stoch, Flavio Balduini, Riccardo Catapano, Lorenzo Malizia, Roberto Colavalle, Enrico Torre, Gianluca Alonzi, Alessio D Aniello, Mark Spyropoulos, Luigi Pontillo, and Ciro Quaranta.

But the glory goes to the otherworldly sounds of Palestrina’s music, performed where it was originated. This is a deeply spiritual experience – a cleansing that we all need at this time. Meditate with this recoding and the world will appear more beautiful again.
