Somehow it was with the publication of SODOM documentaries "Lords Of Depravity I + II" foreseen that the Tom Angelripper his home, the Ruhr Valley in general and Gelsenkirchen would pay tribute in particular. Were founded DIE KNAPPEN in 2007 - in which the FC Schalke 04 will once again missed the chance German soccer champion. The only edge. Interestingly for most metalheads might be the fact that the musicians of DIE KNAPPEN, except for Tom, do not really have anything to do with metal. On the contrary, main songwriter Detlef 'Magic' Lauster is known in the Ruhr rather than pop singer than as a rock musician. Tom Angelripper goes pop, or wat? Of course not. DIE KNAPPEN rock on their debut album from the first note tidy. Musically DIE KNAPPEN Tom's head band but nothing in common. Instead of thrash metal, drone here hard rock riffs out of the speakers, the punk flair sniff here and there. There is also a hint of dirty rock 'n' roll and subtle cross-references to the ONKEL TOM publications. The production is of course up to date and be nice, heavy out of the speakers, what comes to the songs uncommonly good. Not that we misunderstand us here. Since the musicians are active in the scene for ages, you get here, of course, no crap offered. The powerful production rounds only the songwriting from optimal. If you like the solo stuff from Tom Angelripper, is "Auf Kohle geboren" with songs like, "Glück auf Jupp", "Et nützt ja alle nix" or quickly warm "locally". But a melancholy piece like "Kein Weg ins Licht", the latently recalls the late albums of Böhse Onkelz, its raison d'être has on the debut of Gelsenkirchen quintet. Makes it but a nice contrast to numbers like the title song. Lyrically, Tom worked for "Auf Kohle geboren", primarily in two areas: which of course are also related. The first is in most songs - who would have thought it in this band name - the sidekick of mining, whose work and the Ruhr. What seems more fitted for other artists, come over here absolutely authentic. Since Tom has made himself an apprenticeship as a fitter in mining, he knows of course what he sings. Secondly, some of the lyrics revolve around the largest sports club of the Ruhr, the FC Schalke 04. The also fits into the picture, because Schalke and mining are closely linked since time immemorial. Through the lyrics DIE KNAPPEN added a very special album that is meant to be a rocking tribute to their home. For celebrations are good songs like "Mädchen aus dem Kohlenpott", "Kommt mit auf ein Bierchen nach Gelsenkirchen" or "Steigerlied" naturally also, even if that is not the highest priority of "Auf Kohle geboren". The clearly lies with the miners and their hard job. Who ONKEL TOM the albums like, you can also access here without hesitation. Especially as musical, as I said, everything is in balance.
