Filmed in the spectacular surroundings of the Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheatre originally built in 30 AD, this concert from the summer of 2011 sees Deep Purple joined on stage by a full symphony orchestra for performances of all their classic tracks. Deep Purple remains one of the finest hard rock bands on the planet and are undoubtedly at their best when performing live. Here, the orchestral arrangements give an added depth and range to the familiar songs and the band responds to both playing with the orchestra and performing in such a historical location to deliver a brilliant show in front of a huge and enthusiastic crowd.
Reviews: Was surprised they released this since the Live In Montreux 2011 is also with an orchestra and the same set list.
Gave this a watch last night and was well impressed. I actually prefer this show to the Montreaux version.
Both are stunning in terms of picture and audio.
The Verona arena is a stunning concert venue and is brilliantly lit up.
Makes more of a lasting impression and is more watchable than the Montreux one IMHO.
One drawback and why have so many companies started to do this.
Rather than have the whole concert run as a complete program they've cut the encores off and added them onto the
menu under the title Encores. I thought it might be because the orchestra play the main program then DP play encores
by themselves. No - the orchestra play the entire show.
Anyway, can really recommend this one for a nights viewing and a few cold ones.
