Atlantic Records began releasing 12-inch LPs of hit singles by their established rhythm & blues artists in 1956. An early release in this "8000 'popular' series" was Ray Charles' 1957 album of the same name. It was not only the pianist and singer's first studio album, but also a compilation of his hit singles up to his debut. The LP was re-released in 1962 as "Hallelujah I Love Her So".

Excerpts from Richard Strauss's comic opera "Die schweigsame Frau" (“The Silent Woman”) were pre-produced as studio recordings for a television programme in November 1960. The impressive cast was almost identical to that of the opera production at the Salzburg Festival in 1959 under the premiere conductor Karl Böhm: Hans Hotter (Sir Morosus), Hermann Prey (Barber), Fritz Wunderlich (Henry) as well as Ingeborg Hallstein (Aminta) and many others sang.

The first volume of the collection, recorded at the Pau Casals Hall of L’Auditori with Mike George and Stephen Rinker – producer and sound engineer of the BBC and Chandos label – includes three iconic works by the composer from Ciboure (French Basque Country).

Hydra is the second studio album by American rock band Toto, released in 1979. It reached #37 on the Billboard Pop Albums. While most of the album's singles failed to make any impact in the charts, "99", a song inspired by the 1971 science fiction movie THX 1138, reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What makes it obvious that this is the closing chapter of the Tedeschi Trucks Band's ambitious multi-volume project keyed to the phases of the moon? Well, nothing actually. The story, which revolves around a 12th century Sufi poem, became less clear and less of a motivating factor as the albums continued.

Charlie Lee Byrd (September 16, 1925 – December 2, 1999) was an American jazz guitarist. Byrd was best known for his association with Brazilian music, especially bossa nova. In 1962, he collaborated with Stan Getz on the album Jazz Samba, a recording which brought bossa nova into the mainstream of North American music.

O Samba É Elza Soares is the third studio album by Brazilian singer-songwriter Elza Soares, released in 1961 by Odeon, with musical production by Ismael Corrêa and arrangements by Astor Silva.

Los Angeles, 1965: Blues enthusiasts Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson (1943-1970) and Bob "The Bear" Hite (1943-1981) together with like-minded musicians found Canned Heat. They name the band after the title of a 1928 song by bluesman Tommy Johnson about a fuel containing methyl alcohol, also referred to as "canned heat", which is misused by alcoholics as a substitute drug. In 1967 drummer Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra who is still a member today joins Canned Heat, while otherwise the band has seen a lot of personnel turnover in the course of its history.

John Adams’ music has long since captured the admiration of listeners for its inimitable American qualities. City Noir was inspired by the cultural and social history of Los Angeles, with Adams calling it ‘an imaginary film score’ in its evocation of a terse, melodramatic and menace-drenched sound world. Fearful Symmetries exemplifies Adams’ steamroller motor rhythms, endlessly inventive in their shifts of timbre, texture and color. The album ends with a work dedicated to Marin Alsop, a capricious “Spider Dance” of memorable rhythmic drive.

Recorded at various shows during Neil Young and Bluenote Café's 1988 tour, this superb live set documents one of Neil's most funky and heartfelt periods, featuring 7 unreleased songs - "Soul of a Woman", "Bad News Comes to Town", Ain't it the Truth", "I'm Goin'", "Crime of the Heart", "Doghouse", "Fool for Your Love", and a searing 19+ minute version of the immortal "Tonight's the Night" at The Pier in New York City. It was a wild night.
