Since the 2011 edition of the Anzola Jazz Festival, we have been playing some great classics reinterpreted by Massimo Faraò's piano. Carmelo Leotta on double bass and Bobo Facchinetti on drums accompany him, while the female voice that you will hear in some of the pieces presented is by Adele Guglielmi.

With Jim Black we are used to the most different sounds. Paul Motian is one of his main influences, therefore it is not surprising for insiders that he now leads his own troika of piano, bass and drums. In the same way Paul Motian has formed the famous Bill Evans Trio, Jim Black does not find himself in the role of a simple time keeper, but plays melodies on his drums and cymbals interrelating closely with the piano and bass. Comparisons can only be misleading, but Jim Black's analog recording seems to be the continuation of 'Somewhere Before' to another place and into a new time; a great album of the first Keith Jarrett Trio with Charlie Haden on bass and Motian on drums. Music that is the godfather behind the creations of Winter & Winter. Black finds with young pianist Elias Stemeseder and bassist Thomas Morgan, who has worked with Motian, the perfect line-up. The three musicians open their innermost self and have an intimate dialogue captivating the listener. These three artists still have to tell themselves and us a lot of unheard stories.

During the fifties, pretty Lu Ann Simms came to prominence in the very popular, highly rated Arthur Godfrey show on US television. During her time with the show, she produced a number of best selling singles. They are all presented here, from the waltz-time lament "Moving Away" to "You Can't Measure My Love". Lu Ann had a clear, direct approach to a song and whether she's singing country and western or a melancholy ballad, she makes the song her own.

Sure, Steely Dan are a decade or two late in delivering Two Against Nature, their follow-up to 1980's Gaucho. But time may finally be on the side of rock's most illustrious music geeks. The old knock on Steely Dan was that they were too good for their own good — if Walter Becker and Donald Fagen had recorded a studio album during rock's extended Amateur Hour of the early Nineties, they might have been publicly flogged. Unlike their El Lay-based muso contemporaries, Steely Dan managed to mix their craft with some truly crazy shit — slick-sounding songs about perverts, assassins, divorcees and other non-strangers. We should have expected no less from a band named after a dildo, albeit a hugely literary one.
