It is a powerful gospel, Disco and Jazz Funk track with deep lyrics by Vanessa Freeman that inspire using your potential to better the world. The band then recruited Art Of Tones, who has had a string of hits with originals and remixes on numerous labels including Local Talk, Glitterbox, Z Records, and King Street to remix the track. Expanding on the exuberance of the original song, this uplifting Disco House with jangling guitar cuts, slappy bass and thumping drums is sure to heat up dancefloors in the summer of 2025.

Recorded in 1996, Merzbow’s The Prosperity Of Vice, The Misfortune Of Virtue is one of a series of unique editions from his vast catalogue that reveals a side of his practice often under represented. During the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Masami Akita was sometimes working on film and theatre music. In this space he created a series of recordings that capture the full scope of his sound worlds. Given the nature of these settings, his compositional approaches were varied, seeking to create both intensely crushing walls of sound and more spatial, and at times rhythmic, pieces that plot out an approach to sound making which atomises his universe of sound, and uncovered the singular detail that is often consumed in the whole.

At the start of the 60s, a new wave of gospel-influenced jazz started to emerge, with hits such as Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' "Moanin'" and Cannonball Adderley's "Work Song" epitomizing this evolution in the genre. The terms "soul jazz" and "funky jazz" were coined as a way to describe this new sound that was making an impact in the US and also on the other sides of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Kogun (Japanese: 孤軍) is the first album recorded by the Los Angeles-based Toshiko Akiyoshi – Lew Tabackin Big Band. It was released in Japan by Victor in 1974 and received the Swing Journal Silver Disk prize for that year. It was later released on RCA Victor in the USA and elsewhere and received a 1979 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance by a Big Band.

Tales of a Courtesan (Oirantan) is the third recording of the Toshiko Akiyoshi – Lew Tabackin Big Band. It is also sometimes referred to by the title HANA KAI TAN (花魁譚) in rōmaji listings of the Japanese album title.

Insights is the fourth studio recording of the Toshiko Akiyoshi – Lew Tabackin Big Band and was voted "Jazz Album of the Year" in the 1978 Down Beat magazine critic's poll. It received the Swing Journal magazine 1976 Gold Disk prize in Japan and was nominated for a 1978 Grammy award in the USA for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance by a Big Band.

"eternity" is a live album by Boris, recorded on 28 December 2017 on the final date of the band's DEAR 25th Anniversary Tour and released digitally via their Fangsanalsatan imprint. This set depicts the band performing the entirety of Dear, a section of the original Absolutego from 1996 and a new song in "Phenomenons Drive". Two songs were performed this night and were omitted from the digital release in "Akuma no Uta" (From Akuma no Uta) and Farewell (From Pink), the former featuring Taichi Nagura Koki Miyabe of ENDON.

This is a joint album by Akiko Yano and Hiromi Uehara, who are both based in New York and continue to perform internationally with their pianos, although in different genres. The album was recorded live at Bunkamura Orchard Hall on September 15, 2016, as part of Yano's 40th anniversary project. It has been five years since the two performed together on "Get Together -LIVE IN TOKYO-" released in November 2011. Like the previous album, this was a "one-night-only" situation, a heated piano session in which the two musicians shared their inspirations in front of an audience of 2,000 people. The album includes 8 songs performed on the day of the show. In addition to popular Akiko Yano songs such as "Tokyo wa Yoru no 7 o'clock," "I'll Fly Away," and "Ramen Tabetai," the album also includes "Dreamer," for which Yano wrote new lyrics to Hiromi Uehara's original, "Koi no Uta," a new song written by Hiromi Uehara, as well as jazz standards, children's songs, R&B and popular songs from the Showa period. The program consists of a medley of cover tunes that traverse the genres and eras.

The piano feast of your dreams is back! This is the third live recording, vacuum-packed 20 years after their fateful encounter. Akiko Yano and Hiromi Uehara have both been active on the world stage with their piano music, although in different genres. They first met 20 years ago in 2004.

Solid State Survivor is the second album by Japanese electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra, released in 1979. Solid State Survivor was never released in the United States, but many of the songs from this album were compiled for release in the States as the US pressing of ×∞Multiplies (1980). The album was an early example of synthpop, a genre that the band helped pioneer alongside their earlier album Yellow Magic Orchestra, and it also contributed to the development of techno. Solid State Survivor won the Best Album Award at the 22nd Japan Record Awards, and it sold two million records. Several songs from the album have continued to be widely covered and sampled.

After many years working as a buyer for several record stores, DJ Chintam opened his own Blow Up shop in 2018 in Tokyo's Shibuya district. A member of the Dayjam Crew and a specialist of soul, funk, rare groove and disco music, Chintam is also an expert of the home-brewed Wamono grooves. Established in 1969 by audio manufacturer Trio Electronics, now known as Kenwood, the label - and it's subsidiaries such as Showboat and Trash - released high quality music spanning a large variety of genres including rock, jazz, fusion, soundtracks and popular songs, until it's end in 1984. Through the eight tracks selected here, Chintam unearths some dope drum breaks, heavy bass lines and funky horns, for an essential selection of jazz funk fusion and rare groove vibes produced on Trio between 1973 and 1981.Put the needle on the record, turn up the volume and dig right now into the Wamono sound - the cream of the Japanese jazz, funk, soul, rare groove and boogie music developed throughout the years since the sixties in Japan!

Few other conductors had or have a relationship with the Berliner Philharmoniker to match Seiji Ozawa’s. His musical abilities earned him the orchestra’s respect from the very outset. He knew his scores down to the smallest detail and knew precisely what he wanted. However — and this is what made working with him so wonderful — he never imposed his views on us but rather integrated them into a partnership on equal terms. That led not only to personally rewarding encounters: it also made possible the kind of music making in which freedom and spontaneity always had a place.

Japanese musician Hakushi Hasegawa/長谷川白紙 proudly announces their new album Mahōgakkō/魔法学校 for LA-based Brainfeeder Records, out July 24th.
