It’s been 50 years since Vince Gill chose a path toward music and left his home in Oklahoma to launch his career — a journey that’s taken him to Kentucky then California and finally Nashville, and, as a touring artist, around the world. It has seen him find success as a member of bands such as Mountain Smoke, Bluegrass Alliance, Boone Creek, Sundance, Pure Prairie League, Rodney Crowell’s Notorious Cherry Bombs, The Time Jumpers and, most recently, the Eagles, and as an iconic recording artist in his own right. Last week, Gill signed a lifetime deal with his longtime label MCA.

Seasoned rocker Terra Lightfoot has a well-earned reputation as a tireless live performer, with a tour history mapped across the globe and awards testifying to every mile logged along the way. To date, Lightfoot's marathon tours have touched down in eight countries across four continents. This 2017-2025 remaster of Crystal Blue Persuasion and Other Sounds of Today breathes new life into a rare 1969 compilation that epitomizes the era's psychedelic sound. Originally released on the Somerset label, the album is known for its collection of "exploito-psychedelic" tracks, featuring the iconic title cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' hit alongside a lineup of wacked-out acid psych songs characterized by ripping fuzz guitar and trippy vocals.

Weaving together the ancient sound and haunting melodies of the rabab, a 2,500 year-old instrument from Afghanistan, with bold trumpet lines and anthemic Punjabi vocals, Qais and Sonny ground their music in ancestral wisdom and usher us into the future with their uplifting new sound. Following on from Amadeus and Ludwig, the Zaïde Quartet continues its exploration of the great masters’ repertoire with Franz, an opus devoted entirely to Schubert. True to their original and daring approach to recording, the four musicians paint a striking portrait of the Austrian composer through one of his greatest masterpieces: Death and the Maiden. This masterpiece is framed by transcriptions of two lieder: ‘Le Roi des Aulnes’ and a sublime aria from the opera ‘Fierrabras’. The Schubertian universe is expressed here in all its existential depth, with a permanent duality between light and darkness, gentleness and blackness, life and death, leading to a final redemption of overwhelming beauty.

“I’ll also be writing a violin concerto for an American, the same person Stravinsky wrote one for; that will be good advertising for me, but also a lot of work.” For Bohuslav Martinů, the violin was the instrument especially close to his heart, but it was also companion. He played in the Czech Philharmonic as a violinist, and it was the violin that took him to Paris, the city which enchanted him and become his home for 17 years before the war drove him to America. More than once, the violin was his introduction to the “high society” of the music world.

While the three composers featured on this recording are not, in the public perception and sometimes even in that of the performers, among the most significant exponents of Viennese music in the first half of the twentieth century, their remarkably expressive and virtuoso writing is deeply rooted in fin-de-siecle Vienna. They were banned by the dictatorships of the 1930s and then blacklisted in the aftermath of the Second World War by the young European avant-garde, and it is only in recent years that the beauty and opulence of their works have been rediscovered.

Salvador ‘Tutti’ Camarata was something of a 20th century musical Renaissance Man. During his long life, he was a trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, and technologically pioneering recording studio owner across many genres of music. His achievements included involvement with some of the most successful bands of the Big Band era, seminal work for Disney in the 1950s and 1960s, arranging for legendary jazz vocalists, involvement at the highest levels of classical music in the US and the UK, and owning recording studios that worked with many of the biggest names in the rock era.

For over two decades, Matthew Schellhorn has championed the creativity of living composers through commissions and premières, bringing new music to a wider audience. This album draws together a selection of eclectic and captivating piano works united through shared interpretative insights and deep artistic connections.

Debut release from award-winning Danish vibraphonist Viktoria Søndergaard. With wide ranging influences from jazz, chamber music, cabaret, pop, rap and Sukuma-inspired grooves, as well as the hymns and melodies of the Danish Højskolesangbog traditional/folk songbook, the music is grounded in collective expression and responsibility. The album's bold, boundary-pushing sound was built on a strong sense of musical community, as well as Søndergaard's desire to integrate spoken word and lyrics into her practice to convey her thoughts and feelings on the world around her on a deeper, more personal level. Composing with her four collaborators in mind, Viktoria imagined her quintet playing each note as she composed, making the music inseparable from their presence. The album integrates spoken word, rap, singing, screaming, and whispering - a shared sonic tapestry that expresses joy, wonder, questioning and celebration. "It's a band built on inspiration, joy, dreams and love," Viktoria says.
