Mixed-Signal Layout Generation Concepts

Mixed-Signal Layout Generation Concepts by Chieh Lin , Arthur H. M. Roermund , Domine M. W. Leenaerts
English | PDF | 2005 | 211 Pages | ISBN : 1402075987 | 14.7 MB

Mixed-Signal Layout Generation Concepts covers important physical-design issues that exist in contemporary analog and mixed-signal design flows. Due to the increasing pressure on time-to-market, the steep increase in chip fabrication costs, and the increasing design complexity, it becomes even more challenging to produce a first-time right IC layout. The fundamental issues in creating a layout are placement and routing. Although these coupled problems have been investigated for many decades, no satisfactory automated solution has emerged yet. Fortunately, supported by modern computing power and results of new research that further improve computation efficiency, significant steps forward have been taken.

Virtual Components Design and Reuse

Virtual Components Design and Reuse by Ralf Seepold, Natividad Martínez Madrid
English | PDF | 2001 | 234 Pages | ISBN : 0792372611 | 20.5 MB

Design reuse is not just a topic of research but a real industrial necessity in the microelectronic domain and thus driving the competitiveness of relevant areas like for example telecommunication or automotive. Most companies have already dedicated a department or a central unit that transfer design reuse into reality. All main EDA conferences include a track to the topic, and even specific conferences have been established in this area, both in the USA and in Europe.
Virtual Components Design and Reuse presents a selection of articles giving a mature and consolidated perspective to design reuse from different points of view. The authors stem from all relevant areas: research and academia, IP providers, EDA vendors and industry.

Algorithms for Synthesis and Testing of Asynchronous Circuits

Algorithms for Synthesis and Testing of Asynchronous Circuits by Luciano Lavagno , Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli
English | PDF | 1993 | 353 Pages | ISBN : 0792393643 | 15.7 MB

Since the second half of the 1980s asynchronous circuits have been the subject of a great deal of research following a period of relative oblivion. The lack of interest in asynchronous techniques was motivated by the progressive shift towards synchronous design techniques that had much more structure and were much easier to verify and synthesize. System design requirements made it impossible to eliminate totally the use of asynchronous circuits. Given the objective difficulty encountered by designers, the asynchronous components of electronic systems such as interfaces became a serious bottleneck in the design process. The use of new models and some theoretical breakthroughs made it possible to develop asynchronous design techniques that were reliable and effective. This book describes a variety of mathematical models and of algorithms that form the backbone and the body of a new design methodology for asyn chronous design. The book is intended for asynchronous hardware designers, for computer-aided tool experts, and for digital designers interested in ex ploring the possibility of designing asynchronous circuits. It requires a solid mathematical background in discrete event systems and algorithms. While the book has not been written as a textbook, nevertheless it could be used as a reference book in an advanced course in logic synthesis or asynchronous design.

Computer-Aided Design and VLSI Device Development

Computer-Aided Design and VLSI Device Development by Kit Man Cham , Soo-Young Oh , Daeje Chin , John L. Moll
English | PDF | 1986 | 316 Pages | ISBN : 1461296056 | 20.2 MB

This book is concerned with the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in the device and process development of Very-Large-Scale-Integrated Circuits (VLSI). The emphasis is in Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) technology. State-of-the-art device and process development are presented. This book is intended as a reference for engineers involved in VLSI develop ment who have to solve many device and process problems. CAD specialists will also find this book useful since it discusses the organization of the simula tion system, and also presents many case studies where the user applies the CAD tools in different situations. This book is also intended as a text or reference for graduate students in the field of integrated circuit fabrication.

Reverse Engineering: An Industrial Perspective by Vinesh Raja
English | PDF | 2008 | 253 Pages | ISBN : 184628855X | 7 MB

Reverse engineering is the process of discovering the technological principles of an object or component through analysis of its structure and function. Such analysis can then be used to redesign the object very quickly using computer-aided design in concert with rapid-manufacturing processes to produce small numbers of components adapted to the needs of a particular customer. This way of working has huge benefits of speed and flexibility over traditional mass-production-based design and manufacturing processes.

Self-Adaptive Heuristics for Evolutionary Computation

Self-Adaptive Heuristics for Evolutionary Computation by Oliver Kramer
English | PDF | 2008 | 181 Pages | ISBN : 3540692800 | 3.7 MB

Evolutionary algorithms are successful biologically inspired meta-heuristics. Their success depends on adequate parameter settings. The question arises: how can evolutionary algorithms learn parameters automatically during the optimization? Evolution strategies gave an answer decades ago: self-adaptation. Their self-adaptive mutation control turned out to be exceptionally successful. But nevertheless self-adaptation has not achieved the attention it deserves.
