This CD is a celebration of female composers in classical music. For too long their work has been undervalued and overlooked, and unrightly so. Their work, if not dismissed, has often been attributed to male composers. We invite you to a journey across three centuries of extraordinary piano music. See for yourself, why we chose to borrow the title of "Femmes de legende": invisible heroines, whose works deserve to become deeply embedded into our repertoire. "Frauen als Muse" alludes to our ambition for this project to become an inspiration and empower future generations of musicians.

SOMM Recordings is thrilled to collaborate once again with the Tessa Uys and Ben Schoeman piano duo following their highly praised six-volume recording of the nine symphonies by Beethoven arranged for piano duet by Xaver Scharwenka—about which International Piano says, “These readings afford unmitigated pleasure … the articulation and voicing of the players persuades us into thinking we’re in the middle of an unleashed virtuoso orchestra.” Now, these award-winning South African-born artists present music for two pianos and piano duet from their adopted country, highlighting works by Gustav Holst and Edward Elgar.

Inspired by their shared deep connection to 1980s American country and folk artists such as Lyle Lovett, Nancy Griffith, Joe Ely and David Grissom. A cover of Lyle Lovett's song “If I Had a Boat” is the most literal pull from this ‘80s country sound, accompanied by soft synth tones.

Guitarist Phil Manzanera and saxophonist Andy Mackay (Roxy Music) are set to release a new live album, AM PM Soho Live, recorded in an Intimate venue in Soho with special guest and original Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson. Mike Campbell knocked on the dressing room door and brought in a friend to meet Los Straitjackets. It was the late 1990s and through a chance encounter with Campbell, the band found themselves opening a series of shows for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Mike introduced his friend: “You gotta meet these guys. They sound like the early Beatles… if they didn’t sing.”

There is no smooth jazz artist in the music space right now more sought after or who has made more of a new mark on the genre than has keyboardist Nathan Mitchell. He is one of the genres shining lights and his live performances have been considered epic and fully immersive. Just coming off of yet another Billboard #1 with his recent hit single So In Love With You, Mitchell has been hunkered down in full creative mode, riding the high he has been on over the last two years crafting what has now become his latest and by far best work The Legacy Project.
