WhiteOut is an audio work by Lawrence English built from field recordings made during the summer of 2010 at Marambio and Esperanza Bases in Antarctica. It captures the everyday life of humans and wildlife in extreme polar conditions, documenting the sounds of collapsing ice plates, summer streams, orca echolocations, territorial calls of Antarctic Fur Seals, and the chirping of penguin chicks racing to the ocean before winter. The album loosely unfolds in three “chapters” — the human, the land, and the water — which intersect yet retain their own identities, reflecting both the fleeting gentleness of summer and the unforgiving nature of the long winter.

Meredith Moon’s new album, From Here To The Sea, finds the Canadian-born songwriter and instrumentalist taking a slight detour from the Appalachian old-time roots of the album’s predecessor, Constellations. On Past Tension the symbiosis of the trio led by Vitaly Burtsev can be heard drawing listeners into a unique sonic realm. Somewhere between delicate melodies and Burtsev's energetic rhythmically intricate compositions the three musicians find space for both individual expression and collective musical development through subtle interactions. As a result the pieces always feel lively and exciting while remaining accessible through catchy melodies. As the album title suggests Burtsev processes past tensions of various kinds giving each piece its own little story.
