Maybe they wanted to honour the spirit of Halloween? Not right, either — only a handful of costumes were spotted in the sea of more than 20,000 people at the sold-out Bell Centre show Thursday night (notably, someone dressed as a beer can holding a sign that read, “Eh Bruce, veux-tu une bière?”).

Guitarist Charlie Byrd revisits a variety of bossa nova songs, including nine by Antonio Carlos Jobim on this pleasing and accessible set. What makes this release stand out from his many similar dates is that Ken Peplowski's clarinet and tenor are well featured, adding variety to the music and a lead voice for Byrd to play off of. Otherwise the music is predictably excellent, with such classics as "One Note Samba", "Corcovado", "Dindi", "O Pato", and "The Girl from Ipanema" receiving very favorable treatment.

Edo de Waart conducts the San Francisco Symphony for performances of Grieg's "Peer Gynt" Op. 23: Incidental music to Ibsen's Play and Sir Neville Marriner conducts for Holberg Suite, Op.40. This reissue series of classical music masterpieces by Esoteric has attracted a lot of attention, both for its uncompromising commitment to recreating the original master sound. This series marks the first hybrid SACD release of historical recording selections that have been mainstays of the catalog since their initial release.

2014 remastered expanded edition of the 1980 album by legendary soul band The Manhattans. The album has been suggested as one of the best albums The Manhattans have ever recorded. As the title suggests, it's the kind of record made for late night listening and features many beautiful love songs. With classy harmonies in the chorus and an outstanding Gerald Alston lead it provides a warm ending to a very fine chilled out soul record. If you like mellow soul then "After Midnight" is for you.

"Black Tie" is the 1981 album by legendary soul band The Manhattans. The album is regarded the most melodic, emotional and soulful album ever release by the New Jersey outfit. This album has the rare quantity of not including any track fillers and contains nothing but songs that will make you feel those goosebumps regardless of your age. "Black Tie" has been out of print for a while and every Manhattan fan will be queuing for this rare and collector's classic expanded reissue.

A multi-dimensional and self-taught virtuoso, pianist Roy Meriwether blends jazz, blues, and gospel with classical elements in a unique and innovative style. In the mid-60s, on the commercial peak of Jazz, Roy Meriwether signed to Columbia Records whole roster boasted such great artists as Dave Brubeck and Erroll Garner. His "Popcorn & Soul" album was released in 1966 under the Roy Meriwether Trio mark. It's a groovy piano soul jazz!

Tiny Island was formed by Göran Wennerbrandt in 1989, but on their cooperation with Eric Bibb in 1993 went under the name of "Needed Time" with basically the same members. During the years 1994-1998 either Göran Wennerbrandt or the whole band toured regularly with Eric Bibb in both Europe and Canada. On this, Tiny Island debut album they play instrumental music with ingredients from near and far – warm island breezes, a trace of oriental spice and Nordic mood. All the music has been composed by the members of the band with exception of one track by Taj Mahal.

Train is building a reputation as one of rock's tightest outfits one single at a time. The clever and sweet "Meet Virginia" was eclipsed by the gorgeous "Drops of Jupiter". My Private Nation may well prove these guys can squeeze more than one hit out of the album–although none are as enchanting as their breakthrough single. They continue to gravitate toward Elton John-inspired keys-and-guitar arrangements that are marked by studied rhythms and stellar production.

Andrew Esmond Sheridan McGinnity was an English rock and roll singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his backing band The Beat Brothers that at one time featured members of The Beatles. Later in 2007 Tony came up to the Opus 3 Studio in Sweden and we recorded two songs together: “Tell Me If You Can” and “Indochina” – a song relating to his experience when he performed for the US soldiers in Vietnam during the 70-ties.

Many Eastern and Midwestern musicians helped sustain the West Coast jazz scene in the ’50s and ’60s, but the only one among them who made an impact in Southern California on Hammond organ was New Jersey native Richard “Groove” Holmes. This was Holmes’s first recording for Prestige, and it both confirmed his status as one of the B-3’s leading practitioners and elevated his profile with the crossover success of "Misty".

Roland Kirk, the amazing one-man saxophone section and sublime soloist, had yet to add "Rahsaan" to his name when he recorded his first album for Prestige in 1961. It wasn't yet quite clear to many, even people at the center of the jazz community, that Kirk's gifts went considerably beyond the ability to play three horns at once.

This album was recorded in the late 1950s but not released until 1964 to capitalize on John Coltrane's ever-increasing fame and success. Essentially an improvised extended jam session with Donald Byrd on trumpet, Red Garland on piano and drummer Art Taylor, this epitomizes Coltrane's trademark "sheets of sound".
