For Don't Like You, Cheater Slicks acquired the production services of friend and fan Jon Spencer (Pussy Galore, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). Spencer also trades places with vocalist Dana Hatch on "Sensitive Side," his zonked-out, stoner ode to the band (Hatch sounds almost as stoned on the Johnny Thunders-like "Should I"). The entire enterprise could be considered a bit of a family affair, as Spencer's longtime compatriot, Jerry Teel (the Honeymoon Killers), also lends his services on harmonica (the smokin' "Motherlode") and recording. (Boss Hog's Cristina Martinez would seem to be the only key "family" member missing.) The results are more successful than not – especially the opening Scientists-inspired distortion blast, "Feel Free" – but there's possibly a little more variety here than necessary. Spencer's song, for instance, would have worked better at the end of the recording or even as a bonus track (along with the actual bonus, a spoken word bit). From a sequencing standpoint, it just doesn't fit as comfortably with the rest of the material as it could. That quibble aside, this is one of Cheater Slicks' finest releases in a long and varied career.

Eero Koivistoinen Quartet's rare live album from 1978 reissued for the first time in nearly half a century via Svart Records. Eero Koivistoinen is one of the all-time greats in Finnish jazz and saxophone, arrived in the Finnish jazz scene in the mid-60s. Ever since, he has been one of the most distinguished and trusted jazz musicians in Finland. He is known for his versatility and creativeness, his tastes ranging from pithy jazz solos to large-scale orchestral works. In addition to the band leader and saxophonist Koivistoinen, the line-up of Eero Koivistoinen Quartet included the accomplished musicians Pekka Sarmanto (bass), Reiska Laine (drums) and Vladimir Shafranov (piano), and the same line-up remained active for the next two years. They released the legendary album Labyrinth on Love Records in June 1977, which is a definite cornerstone of Finnish Jazz.

Sasha Keable Announces New ‘act right’ EP. Sasha Keable will release new EP ‘act right’ this month.
The incoming project is her first in four year, and finds the British / Colombian star channelling the emotions of a painful break-up. A true case of music-as-therapy, Sasha’s message is resonating loud and clear with fans. Recent single ‘move it along’ saw the singer combine with Stateside R&B phenomenon Leon Thomas, who continually reps Sasha during interviews. The full EP features seven songs – Leon Thomas is the only feature – and will be available from August 8th. “I felt like if I didn’t make this music I might lose my mind,” she says. “I made this project for myself, it’s exactly what I needed.” It’s quite a summer for Sasha, who appeared at Meltdown – at the personal invitation of Little Simz – and caused a roadblock at Glastonbury.

Something Beautiful is the ninth studio album by American singer Miley Cyrus. It was released on May 30, 2025, through Columbia Records and was accompanied by a musical film of the same name on June 6, 2025. It is a visual album with existential themes, centered around healing from trauma and finding beauty in the darkest moments of life. Cyrus executively produced the album with Shawn Everett and collaborated with various musicians, including Molly Rankin and Alec O'Henley of Alvvays, Cole Haden of Model/Actriz, Danielle Haim, Flea, Pino Palladino, and Adam Granduciel of the War on Drugs. The album topped the charts in Austria and has charted within the top 10 in Australia, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The term "scratch band" refers to a tradition of folk music, Ron Blake explains in his album notes, "performed by storytellers and groove makers in the community I grew up with in the Virgin Islands." The music here isn't reflective of the genre of scratch bands, called quelbe, but "the intention when putting the album together … is. Groove and other elements of music–melody, harmony, & space, imagined without pretense."
