Sandro Gibellini - The Boy Next Door (2021) [Official Digital Download 24/96]

In 2016, during the “Maniscalco meets Gibellini” sessions, the legendary jazz guitarist Sandro Gibellini and the multi-instrumentalist/composer Emanuele Maniscalco were recorded together for the first time at the Studio Ritmo&Blu. Five years on, the same studio welcomes them once again for a “jazz standards revisited - stage 2” session, that is poised on the same point of balance between tradition and experimentation.

It’s a musical path that evolves uninterrupted through transformation: the duo here is enlarged to feature Giulio Corini, among the most refined double bass players in Italy and long time musical partner of the duo.

“The Boy Next Door” is the title of their new album, recorded by Stefano Castagna directly on tape.

The tracklist is mainly played by the usual guitar-double bass-drums set trio, while three tracks have been played with the piano taking the place of the drums.

The choice ranges from Kern to Jobim, interspersed with short and evocative improvised interludes that complement the main musical narrative and bear out the trio’s more experimental streak.
