“Standard” is English for normal, common, simple. What Niculin Janett does on the saxophone and Joscha Schraff on the piano is the opposite. The two play these well-known jazz songs, or standards, in their own open and personal way. They know the standards and their tradition, but do not allow themselves to be dictated by them, but use them as a guide for their own path. These are sometimes straight, sometimes curvy, sometimes smooth, sometimes bumpy.

In 2018 the Janett and Schraff spent a few weeks in the jazz mecca of New York, making pilgrimages from concert to concert and recording music themselves. With many impressions and these recordings in their luggage they came back to Switzerland and are now releasing them under the Berlin label QFTF. The tenor saxophone maestro Rich Perry can be heard on some of the tracks, keeping them company in the studio.
