For his entry into Blue Note, Ethan Iverson opted for a close guard in solid gold. Supported by drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Larry Grenadier, the former pianist-founder of the trio The Bad Plus (which he left in 2017) does here in pure and hard jazz and does not enjoy taking over Nirvana, Aphex Twin or the Pixies as in the past… If the singularity of his piano rubbed shoulders after the Bad Plus adventure with the game of swords named Billy Hart, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Tom Harrell or Mark Turner, he finds here a rhythm with a formidable swing. "With these two, he explains, you don't need to bring a lot of equipment. Even with something very simple, just basic sketches, they take it somewhere else to make it sound great. It's the spirit of the tradition of those great Blue Note albums of the 50s and 60s, where the themes are memorable and yet there are few notes on the score. »

And it is clear that the simplicity of the roadmap described by Ethan Iverson gives birth to a record of great richness. Great in the exchanges he offers to the DeJohnette / Grenadier pair. And in the originality of his voice, which he makes resonate in a context relatively respectful of the tradition of the piano/bass/drums trio… Iverson fortunately remains Iverson and on a theme like She Won't Forget Me, he mischievously eyes the pop approach dear to The Bad Plus where the melodic framework takes control of the festivities. Every Note Is True also underlines his talents as a composer (he signs nine of the ten themes of the album) which he viscerally puts at the service of the narration but also of the precision of his piano.
