No, she is certainly not a quiet girl. Rather a multi-layered, musical volcano. Born in Varna on the Black Sea, Alexandrina Simeon set up her musical base camp in Augsburg. From there, she sets off with her top-class quintet to take Europe's stages by storm. While her Bulgarian roots are clearly recognizable on her previous albums "Roots & Influence" (2010) and "Ocean Tales" (2018), she presents a completely different side on her new album "Quiet Girl". The idea came about during a concert tour. "Our pianist Daniel suggested making a very intimate record. He also had a suitable, tongue-in-cheek title at the ready: "Quiet Girl", Simeon recalls. She has had an intensive musical partnership with pianist and music teacher Daniel Mark Eberhard for 20 years. "We wanted to curb her Bulgarian temperament a little and show her contemplative side, in which her multi-faceted voice comes into its own particularly well," explains Eberhard. For him, the album is also a self-confident testament to the band's 15-year history. "The album should be recorded in the same way as jazz icons like Coleman Hawkins did 70 years ago. They went into the studio with rough sketches and created most of it there with their interaction, intuition and craftsmanship. For us, too, the focus should be on the spontaneous interaction of the band members. In this way, we provide a counter-model to the trend of elaborately and complexly arranged jazz compositions," says the pianist.
