Al Thompson,Jr. is a southern Connecticut-based composer and pianist. He holds several degrees in music from th University of Bridgeport. City Mainstream is his first CD. He is devoted to Jazz. All pretenders, beware.
Al was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1949, at the time an industrial and manufacturing center. Many Jazz musicians lived and worked there and all the "Giants of Jazz " played the clubs and theaters in the Bridgeport area.The local jazz musicians created a strong scene and Al started Playing with them and studying music in private school.
He later studied music and composition at the University of Bridgeport where he earned his B.A in Music and Composition. He released his first CD "City Mainstream " in 2007. His band is currently touring the New York tri-state area.
