Dewey Redman was an American jazz saxophonist, known for performing free jazz as a bandleader, and with Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett. Redman played mainly tenor saxophone, though he occasionally doubled on alto saxophone, played the Chinese suona (which he called a musette) and on rare occasions played the clarinet. His son is saxophonist Joshua Redman. This is reissue of African Venus album features Dewey Redman playing with his son Joshua, and includes original compositions as well as songs by Pat Ballard, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Ornette Coleman.

New York-based pianist John Di Martino has found a strong audience in Japan after recording for the Japanese Venus label with his Romantic Jazz Trio, which is rounded out by various bassists and drummers available to record, rather than an actual working group. Veterans Ira Coleman and Grady Tate round out the trio for this 2004 session, which kicks off with a stimulating, sometimes humorous, post-bop workout of the standards.

Six years after forming the United Nations of Sound – a pseudo-group that lasted no more than a single record – Richard Ashcroft pushes himself back into the spotlight on These People, a 2016 album that finds the former Verve singer reuniting with Wil Malone, an orchestrator who worked on Urban Hymns and Northern Soul. Malone's presence suggests These People may achieve a certain symphonic heft, yet Ashcroft sidesteps the churning psychedelia and progressive majesty of the Verve's prime. In its place, the singer/songwriter taps into a certain insouciant sophistication, favoring insistent arena anthems and finely tailored Eurodisco.

Sam Bush’s new album Storyman is a freewheeling collection that gleefully picks and chooses from jazz, folk, blues, reggae, country swing, and bluegrass to create a jubilant noise only classifiable as the 'Sam Bush sound.' Many of the songs are stories––several of them true––and the legendary mandolin player co-wrote every one of them with friends, including the late Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Jon Randall Stewart, Jeff Black, bandmate Stephen Mougin, and others. Storyman continues Bush’s tradition of creating something completely new and fresh for each recording, this time focusing on stories from some of the most popular songsmiths of our time.

HSBC Arena, Buffalo, NY, 11/22/09 is a live album by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, released in November 2016. It is the eleventh official release through the Bruce Springsteen Archives. The show was originally recorded live at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York on November 22, 2009. It includes a complete performance of Springsteen's debut album, Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. along with several other rarities. The show was the last to feature Clarence Clemons before his 2011 death and also was the last date on the Working on a Dream Tour.

For his fourth release on the Fuga Libera label, the pianist and fortepianist Piet Kuijken, professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Antwerp Conservatory, presents a programme of music by Ludwig van Beethoven. The starting point of this double album is an artistic approach that is both pedagogical and musical: the first half of the release contains pieces such as the Sonate Pathétique op.13 and the Sonata op.110 performed on a historical piano (a Tomkison original from 1808), while the second invites you to compare this with pieces of the same magnitude – the Appassionata Sonata op.23 and the imposing op.111, amongst others – played on a modern piano.

Since Bryn Terfel’s home has always been in North Wales, it may seem strange that he travelled to the Rocky Mountains in the American West to make an album called Homeward Bound. But Terfel has found a true sense of belonging in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is based. The 360-voice ensemble provides the rich and evocative backdrops for Terfel’s ringing bass-baritone on this new set of recordings, which spans material ranging from British and American folk and popular songs to hymns, spirituals and classical pieces. Enhancing their combined musical artistry is the fact that choir and star soloist are united by a surprising amount of shared history.

When Jean-Christophe Spinosi backed away from his specialty as a Vivaldi conductor a few years ago, one never envisioned him re emerging with Shostakovich, or that the hair-trigger contrasts that make his Vivaldi thrilling would lend themselves to the abrupt, collage elements of Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony Op 110a, the centrepiece of this disc. The deeply introspective, low-vibrato performance distinctively conveys a sense of a world flying apart in all directions in a sort of hallucinatory slow motion.
