A sweet set of tracks from The Tymes – certainly no "turning point" in their career, but a really strong record nonetheless! By the time of the set, the group was really rolling along strongly – fitted here with 2 new female members, but coming together with a harmonic strength that shows their many years in recording – and which is carried off here by some nice Philly mainstream touches, courtesy of arranger Richie Rome. George Williams' lead vocals are only slightly out front in the set, making it mostly a real group effort – and titles include "The Reader", "Traces Of You", "It's So Good To Be Waking Up With You", "Love's Illusion", "All You Ever Wanted To Know About", and "That's The Breaks Of Love".

By the late '70s, Connors had gained a new audience that was perhaps unfamiliar with his earlier jazz efforts like Dark of Light and Love From the Sun. Later albums like Saturday Night Special, You Are My Starship, and Romantic Journey had Connors putting R&B in the mix. This 1979 album is the follow-up to the classic This Is Your Life. While that effort seemed to attain a good mix of intelligent R&B and jazz, Invitation finds the formula a little diluted. This does start off on a good foot. The first track "Your Love Is My Ecstasy" features spirited vocals by Al Johnson and great drumming. Ada Dyer, who's also known as Miss Adaritha, handles the rest of the lead vocals.

Evelyn King was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her uncle Avon Long had played the part of Sportin' Life in the first Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess and worked with Lena Horne at the Cotton Club. Her father sang back-up for groups at Harlem's Apollo Theater. She was discovered as a young woman while working with her mother at Philadelphia International Records as an office cleaner. Producer Theodore T. Life overheard her singing in a washroom and began coaching her. She was eventually signed to a production deal with Life's Galaxy Productions and a recording contract with RCA Records Call on Me is the third album released by R&B singer Evelyn "Champagne" King on the RCA label in 1980. It was produced by Theodore Life and George Tindley.

In the press release that accompanies Michael Chapman's 2017 album 50, the iconic British guitarist refers to it as his "American album." While the material does sound less idiosyncratically British than much of Chapman's body of work, 50 could be more accurately described as his indie rock album. He's best known as a master of the acoustic guitar, but on these sessions, the dominant instrument is the electric guitar of Steve Gunn, who also produced the sessions.

For Planet Drum, Hart convened some of the world's finest drum talents for a momentous collaboration that won the very first Grammy for World Music. He brought together Nigerian drum legend Babatunde Olatunji, Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, Nigerian talking drum ace Sikiru Adepoju, and Puerto Rico's master conguero Giovanni Hidalgo, among others. The cornerstone 1991 album spent an unprecedented 26 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard world music chart and continues to sell as a perennial favorite to this very day.
