When I first saw the ‘Forever Young’ video back in 1991, I knew that Tyketto would become one of my all time favorite AOR bands – especially after hearing the rest of their stunning debut in “Don’t Come Easy”! Now, some 26 years later, the stirring passion of that release is captured on this superb live album filmed at the Frontiers Rock Festival IV this year. Recorded back to front with 3 extra songs in ‘Rescue Me’ (from sophomore “Strength In Numbers” in 1994), ‘Dig In Deep’ (from “Dig In Deep” in 2012) and ‘Reach’ (taken from the latest 2016 release), this stunning performance captures all the greatness of Tyketto – along with a new found fire in their kick ass cowboy rock.

Consisting of Bill Charlap, Jay Leonhart and Bill Stewart, the New York Trio is a studio-only group that specializes in classic standards performed in a straightforward post-bop style. On this release, the trio focuses on selections from the Great American Songbook.

Funk, Inc. is the first studio album by Funk, Inc., released in 1971. Soul-jazz in the early Seventies was attuned to the dance rhythms of more commercial black music, yet still made room for the deep blues grooves and extended blowing that were hallmarks of the style in earlier years. Funk, Inc., the hot instrumental quintet from Indianapolis, was indicative of the era’s best, displaying traces of Sly Stone and Marvin Gaye, yet still able to stretch out and play unhyphenated jazz with subtlety and imagination.

It certainly has been a long time coming but September 22, 2017 will finally see the release of Get What You Deserve, the mesmerizing new album from legendary vocalist Sweet Pea Atkinson. A jovial blend of Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk and more, Get What You Deserve will be released on Blue Note Records and will be accompanied by tour dates across the U.S. this Fall.

For their fifth album on Venus Records, Bill Charlap and his New York Trio took on another songbook. This time it was Cole Porter's. Begin the Beguine is part of Charlap's songbook series. Previous entries include that of Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington. When you mix the divine melodies and romantic nature of Cole Porter with this great piano trio that has played together for five years…well, the results are extraordinary. The album begins with the lively "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", then goes through the lovely "So In Love", the surprisingly unhurried "Begin the Beguine", and ends with the heart-rending "Every Time We Say Goodbye".

The present program features four sonatas for violin and piano written around 1920 by four composers of different nationalities and contrasting aesthetics, a representative panorama of the aesthetic profusion of musical Europe at that time. Here we find the relics and prolongations of Romanticism, the irruption of avant-gardes, and folk music being taken into account, this giving a new sense to the affirmation of musical nationalism.

In the 15th century, when the catholic Kings banished the Jews from Spain, “ladino” meant… crafty ! Because only the foxiest (« like the devil … ») spoke that language ! It lived on until nowadays in the Jewish communities, which were built up after that disaster, in Istanbul, Thessaloniki and in Tangier or Tetouan, Morocco. Ladino or Judaeo-Spanish, crossed the Mediterranean sea and took away with it marvelous melodies that sing the bright love, the exile or tell the story of Jewish people.

Majestic and profoundly moving, Mahler’s 2nd Symphony (‘Resurrection’) constitutes one of the towering monuments of late-19th-century symphonic music and one of the composer’s most popular works. It was therefore logical that Jean-Claude Casadesus, a living legend of the conductor’s art, chose this work, which has accompanied him for many years, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his Orchestre National de Lille.

Sergey Khachatryan’s fifth recording on Naïve, and second with his sister, is dedicated to the three luminous and deeply romantic sonatas for violin and piano by Johannes Brahms. Spread over ten years, from 1878 to 1888, the three sonatas are contemporary with his four symphonies and are flanked by the Violin Concerto in D major (1878) and the Double Concerto for violin and cello in A minor (1887).

„Now“, the first studio album for Shania in nearly 15 years, releases on September 29th. The new album offered as both a 16-track deluxe and a 12-track standard album, both feature Shania s current single, Life s About To Get Good, playing on country radio now.
