Superstar violinist Anne Akiko Meyers is one of today’s most in-demand classical performers. Beloved by audiences around the world, with a reputation for groundbreaking recital programs and important commissions, Fantasia marks her 35th studio album and is one of her most important projects to date.

Comedian Jason Manford is to release his first ever studio album, A Different Stage. Inspired by Manford’s love for musical theatre, A Different Stage ranges from show tunes he has performed in the past, to songs that are close to his heart and some of his childhood favourites. The album includes renditions of ‘On The Street Where You Live’ from My Fair Lady, ‘Hushabye Mountain’ from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, ‘Stars’ from Les Misérables and ‘The Impossible Dream’ from the 1965 hit Broadway musical Man of La Mancha and other musical favourites.

In the past ten years, I have recorded various musical portraits of great contemporary composers. Their music has increasingly called out to me, and it punctuates beautifully the repertoire featured on the 40 albums I have recorded. The more I listen to composers gravitating around the minimalist movement, the more I want to interpret their music. I enjoy the moments of introspection that these works bring. Perhaps this has to do with maturity?

With "The Stolen Book", to be released on October 6, Chrystel Wautier delivers a magical, intimate and introspective album. A celestial voice that is already a favorite of André Manoukian, who says: "We get the impression that she sings in our ear, her phrasing is clear, she plays naive painting, restraint.

Jazz musician Keyon Harrold has become the go-to trumpeter when Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Maxwell and others need a hand, and was the pick when Don Cheadle needed to conjure up the sound of Miles Davis for the Grammy-winning Miles Ahead soundtrack. On his new album, The Mugician, Harrold returns to his own music, and brings a few of his friends and past collaborators, including Gary Clark, Jr., Big K.R.I.T. and Bilal, along for an vibrant and wide-reaching set of tunes, which sometimes arrive in grand, sweeping arrangements ("MB Lament," "Wayfaring Traveler") or in jagged, concise snippets ("Lullaby"). And while Harrold and his playing rightfully take center stage, the Ferguson-born artist also makes room for a number of vocal contributors, some of which directly comment on the uncertainty of the moment ("Broken News," "When Will It Stop?"), offering strength and courage in upsetting times.

In the context of the decades since his passing and the legacy that's continued to grow, John Coltrane's Selflessness album bears an odd similarity to Bob Dylan's autobiographical book Chronicles. In Chronicles, Dylan tells the tale of his beginnings, jumping abruptly and confoundingly from his early years to life and work after his 1966 motorcycle accident, omitting any mention of his most popular and curious electric era. The contrast between these two eras becomes more vivid with the deletion of the years and events that bridged them. Released in 1969, Selflessness presents long-form pieces, likewise from two very distinct and separate eras of Coltrane's development.

This set is drawn from a February 15, 1967, recording session one of John Coltrane's last days in the studio. The tapes had been in Alice Coltrane's care since the recording, and she gave titles to the pieces, overseeing their release on CD in 1995. All are previously unreleased with the exception of "Offering" which appeared on Expression. As on that release, there's evidence here that Coltrane's relentless musical search was drawing him ever further out. The performances are shorter, focused, with a magisterial lyricism seamlessly integrated with exclamatory shrieks and cries.

You'd be hard pressed to find two better singles on a debut album than 'Ask the Lonely' and 'Baby I Need Your Loving.' These were the cornerstones of The Four Tops' first LP, and besides netting them one Top Ten and Top 20 pop single each, as well as a Top Ten and Top 20 R&B single, it established Levi Stubbs' resounding voice as another unforgettable one at Motown. Even the tunes that didn't do so well, like 'Left with a Broken Heart' or 'Without the One You Love (Life's Not Worth While),' were marvelously sung. It was a debut to remember.
