The high strength of wood, combined with its relatively low density, makes it a widely used material in the broader construction industry. However, despite its many advantages, wood has defects that limit its range of applications in building construction.
For this reason, in modern timber construction, new solutions and wood-based materials are being introduced to increase the durability, stiffness, and load-bearing capacity of wooden constructions. The main topics of this Special Issue were knowledge on the possibility of reinforcing laminated timber beams, the strength of glulam–concrete composite beams and the connections of individual components of timber construction, innovative solutions for the connection of lightweight wood frame panelized roofs, the effect of fire retardation of wood on its strength depending on the time of accelerated aging, and the production of innovative wood-based and insulating materials for the broadly defined construction industry.
