Some of the important concepts which are explained in this video are: the different types of diffusion, how diffuse reflection is caused independently of surface roughness, the typical values you should aim for when creating diffuse reflections to avoid creating unrealistically bright materials, the typical fresnel and specular reflection values you should use, how fresnel is affected by surface roughness, and how coatings will affect underlying surfaces based on their index of refraction.
