Trigonometry, from Greek trigonon (meaning triangle) and metron (meaning measure) is a branch of Applied Mathematics that studies various relationships involving lengths and angles of triangles. In any triangle there are six basic elements, 3 sides and 3 angles. There are also many other secondary elements, like the bisectors, the altitudes, the medians, the inscribed and circumscribed circles, etc.
Trigonometry investigates and develops many interesting formulas relating various triangle elements (either basic and/or secondary) and as such is useful in providing solutions to practical, real life problems.
Also, Trigonometry introduces the student to the (extremely useful for future more advanced studies) notion of the circular and periodic functions.
In this text we give a systematic summary of some fundamental trigonometric identities, show how complex numbers enter into trigonometric calculations (making use of the famous Euler’s formulas) and work in details some really challenging Trigonometric problems.
