Introduction: The history of the Hawker Hurricane deserves far more coverage than has been the case to dale. Its prime importance to RAF Fighter Command, particularly during the crucial Battle of Britain, tends to be ignored or downplayed in the face of its contemporary, the Supermanne Spitfire. This is not surprising because the advanced shape of the 'Spit* has tended to place the more pedestrian layout of the Hurricane in the shade. Additionally, the Spitfire Fund was created during World War II with no similar War Savings program covering the "Hurri". Another distorting influence lies with the media which still has a love affair with Supermarine's creation even into the 1990s. Nevertheless, interest in the Hurricane has grown in recent years. Previously, the number of airwortln Hurricanes was very small in comparison to the Spitfire, but it is now possible to see up to four of Sir Sydney Camm's designs in the air together.
