Martin Bowman - RAF Bomber Stories: Dramatic First-hand Accounts of British and Commonwealth Airmen in World War 2
    Patrick Stephens Limited / Haynes Publishing | 1998 | ISBN: 1852605677 | English | 191 pages | PDF | 50.4 MB

In World War Two, RAF Bomber Command lost 55,000 aircrew, with nearly 10,000 more shot down and captured and a further 8000 wounded in action. This selection of personal accounts, as related by surviving airmen, is fully illustrated with photographs from their albums. Appendices include the Battle Order for 5th June 1944 and "Bomber" Harris's famous letter to Bomber Command on 12th May 1945. The book also includes accounts of: night-time bombing raids as seen from the cockpits of Wellingtons, Hampdens, Stirlings and Manchesters in the early days of World War Two; the cut and thrust of the Bomber Command "heavies" (Lancasters and Halifaxes) versus the German nightfighter force; and "moskitopanic" as RAF Mosquito aircraft made large-scale attacks in the latter days of the war.
