Operation Lucy: Most Secret Spy Ring of the Second World War
    Coward, McCann & Geoghegan | 1981 | ISBN: 069811079X | English | 270 pages | PDF | 24.7 MB

The spy-ring, code-name Lucy, functioning from Switzerland during the 1939-45 war, is known to have surpassed all other Intelligence operations of the kind in effectiveness, especially in the influence it had on the course of hostilities. All this is for the first time fully explained and documented in Operation Lucy by Anthony Read and David Fisher. It makes fascinating reading, especially for someone like myself, involved, as I was, in wartime clandestine Intelligence duties and in handling Ultra material. I'd describe the book as le Carre without frills, shedding light in dark places, and yet leaving room for speculation about, for instance, the bizarre character and record of the late Alexander Foote, with whom I became briefly acquainted after the war when he was —of all things—working in the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries. In my opinion he rates a biographical study on his own account.
