I believe that something like this may have happened to you before. You were paired with some little brat, old enough to be your son or even your grandson.
The young guy is wearing a cap backward and trousers with holes in it. Eventually, some dirty sneakers that may be, either hanging from the chair (his legs may not be long enough for his feet to reach the ground) or under his ass, on the chair, in order for him to become a little taller.
This little punk just cannot stand quietly! He creates annoying noises by manipulating pieces, loudly chewing gum in his wide open mouth, or by constantly shaking some parts of his tiny body. Once in a while, he will pick from his nose and you will feel some kind of relief if he does not glue it on the table, through it towards, you or even eat it in front of you! It is also possible that you may have some second guesses of handshaking him at the end of the game…
Not happy with this, he will eat the sandwich that his dedicated mother brought him to the table during your thinking time, dropping crumbs into the chessboard, between two loud sips of a can (also opened during your reflection time) of Sparkling Coca Cola. You will be permanently watched by his anxious coach and/or his father.
Your young opponent will play very fast all the theoretical opening moves, and he may run from and to the chair, every time a move is completed. Sometimes, you may feel observed or just some asthmatic breathing on your neck. Yes! It is him, right behind you… again!
His friends and/or colleagues will often join the party. Making all sort of distracting noises and motions…for you! The referee will comply and allow all these behaviors and others alike. And, although you have a strong belief that you are much stronger than the little gremlin, you may end not winning the game. Sometimes, even losing it!
How could you allow this to happen to you and how to prevent it from happening again? The purpose of this book is to help you find the right answers to these and some other questions.
