Electrical network transients and high voltage engineering concepts are of vital importance in ensuring the reliability of electrical power systems. It is through the high voltage engineering concepts whereby the factors leading to failures of electrical power components can be assessed. In addition, the parameters or physical quantities which define the status of electrical insulation can be monitored through high voltage test techniques. The electrical failures in power system components occur mainly in the insulation. The defects that may cause insulation failure can be studied theoretically, but they are well understood when studied through laboratory and field measurements. In some environments where the laboratory and field measurements are not possible due to, for example, unavailability of the facilities for testing purposes, the simulation techniques may serve the purpose. This book has considered the learners who may not have access to high voltage testing facilities by mimicking the laboratory/field environments in the computer simulation software.
