    Description
This course will help you to design effective learning programmes that will contribute to your organisation being more environmentally and socially sustainable. It is primarily aimed at human resource development professionals who are interested in developing learning in their organisations that will strengthen sustainable practice. It will also be of interest to sustainability professionals who need to design and deliver training as part of their professional activity.Learning about sustainability is completely different to learning about how to use a new computer system or how to sell a product or service. Sustainability is about values, what is important in the world to people, so if you want your learning programmes to make sure people are committed to sustainability, you need to address values. This course will show you how to do that. This course is a unique one-stop shop that explains the basic principles of what the sustainable organisation should do, how to look at this from a systems thinking perspective, how to use systems thinking to identify what content you need in learning programmes to address sustainability and how you can design, deliver and support formal and informal learning that supports organisational sustainability activities.I start the explanation of systems thinking from basic principles, so you do not need to have any prior knowledge about what systems thinking means. So you will learn how to draw simple diagrams to help you make sense of complex situations, and that will lead on to seeing how systems thinking tools can help you to identify subjects that need to be covered in sustainability-focused learning programmes.I will also explain some of the basics of social and economic sustainability, and show how the pressures for sustainability create drivers for organisations to become more sustainable. You will see how learning needs emerge from this process. The course is very practical. At the end of each section you are asked to complete an assignment where you will apply what you have learnt, so as you work through the course you will start to develop your own learning needs assessment. This means that by the time you complete the course you should have a plan for how to develop sustainability-focused learning programmes that are particularly important to you at this time.
