Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment of Sacral Somatic Dysfunction: Diagnosis, OMT, and Therapeutic Exercises

    What you'll learn

    Diagnosis of Sacrum Somatic Dysfunction

    Treatment of Sacrum Somatic Dysfunction

    Osteopathic Manual Therapy

    Exercises

    Requirements

Basic Anatomy Knowledge: Familiarity with basic anatomy is helpful but not required. We'll cover everything you need to know within the course.

    Description

Course Description:This course provides a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating sacral somatic dysfunction using osteopathic principles and techniques. It is designed for healthcare professionals, including osteopathic physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, and manual therapy practitioners, who seek to enhance their understanding and clinical skills in sacral assessment and treatment. The diagnostic component of the course covers essential screening and motion tests for sacral dysfunction, including the Seated Flexion Test, Lumbosacral Spring Test, Backward Bending Test, and Respiratory Motion Test. Participants will also learn how to palpate the sacrum effectively and apply inherent motion techniques to refine their diagnosis. The course includes a structured framework for identifying different sacral dysfunctions The treatment section introduces a variety of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) techniques tailored for sacral dysfunction. These include counterstrain techniques for the sacrum, sacroiliac region, and piriformis muscle, as well as sacral rocking, myofascial release, balanced membranous tension, and facilitated oscillatory release. Additionally, participants will gain proficiency in muscle energy techniques for forward and backward sacral torsions, sacral flexion, and extension, as well as thrust techniques for unilateral sacral flexion. To support long-term management, the course also covers therapeutic exercises such as piriformis stretching, sacroiliac self-mobilization, and sacroiliac side-bending self-mobilization. These exercises help patients maintain sacral alignment and prevent dysfunction recurrence.By the end of the course, participants will have a structured and practical approach to sacral dysfunction, equipping them with the knowledge and hands-on techniques to enhance patient outcomes.
