The joy of working with wood, with a very pleasing artifact
What you'll learn
As with all my courses you will come away with an object that you have made, it will be either be functional or decorative or or both!
A timeline? if you have for workshop, ideal, but making it outside or inside your home would take longer, the materials cost me about £15 GBP
As with using woodworking tools care must be taken with sharp edges, so I include verbal and captioned safety advice in my videos.
I've enjoyed a lifetime of working with wood, I hope that this will be rubbed off on you carrying forward the knowledge that you gained from this.
Requirements
Please print off the cutting list of timber required (variable) and tools needed are listed here too.
Description
I decided to make the whole of the shelf out of pine timber other than just using a pine shelf and having metal brackets supporting it, metal brackets are fine for a shed or a garage but I wanted to make the shelf decorative and pleasing to look at and with a little more work to make the whole thing in wood it would give you practice with the tools and making joints. The joints I've used are worth making. I could have made this an easier option by just using butt joints and putting nails and screws in the end up but I decided to do it this way and to demonstrate how you can achieve some theory as well as practice. This shelf his suitable for a kitchen, living room, dining room etc. of course if you have a kitchen that has pine furniture this is a perfect complement, oh you can also make more than one shelf you can make the shelf longer change the dimensions etc. anyway you wish. I will include a list of tools needed and also what's termed as a cutting list but of course the cutting list depends on whatever size shelf you make, as these can all be changed.

The shelf is one of those projects where it's functional as well as decorative, in fact it's too good to use and a shed in our garage. I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.
