A framework for language teachers in using AI and critical thinking to create engagement and motivation in their class

    What you'll learn

How language teaching is developing through the power of AI and its advancements in language models

Learn how to make AI a helpful partner—adding new perspectives, saving time, sparking ideas, and opening up space for deeper thinking and more engaged students

How to streamline teaching and learning and to develop critical thinking with practical support using AI (lesson planning, class management, feedback and more)

Teach students to engage with AI from basics to guiding them to ask the right set of questions (prompts) for each activity eg. reflective, feedback prompts etc.

Show students how to analyse language, question sources, notice bias, craft arguments by using critical thinking skills of creativity, assessment, evaluation

Use AI to help students turn action into focus rather than distraction, keeping them in constant creation-reflection process eg. write-edit, feedback-correction

Use AI’s power for generating ideas to get students over speaker’s block providing concepts they can use easily for higher level thinking, improving confidence

AI stimulates higher level thinking. It seems counterintuitive, but it helps structure and correlate lower level thinking freeing students to be more expressive

To train students to read and write with judgement and discernment, rather than just with a grammar and vocabulary focus

Establish practical guidelines and boundaries for using AI in line with your teaching values eg. when, how,and why to use AI and what should not be outsourced

    Requirements

Any language teaching qualification. No AI experience necessary.

    Description

AI is in our classrooms already but has yet to be managed for its full potential. Emphasizing critical thinking skills positions the teacher to get the best use of AI for their students. This course is a step by step approach in using AI and higher order thinking to create more engagement and motivation in your classes. This course is for language teachers in all contexts (foreign language teaching, business language teaching, secondary school teaching, exam language teaching). What the course involves:Streamline teaching and learning using AICritical Thinking Skills (creativity, assessment, evaluation, judgement)Establish guidelines and boundaries for using AI in the classroomPractical support using AI (lesson planning, class management and feedback)What you will achieve from the course:The skill to engage your students’ critical thinking and curiosityThe ability to use AI to challenge students think more creativelyTo show students how to analyse language, question sources, notice bias, craft arguments (assessment and evaluation)To train students to read and write with judgement and discernment, rather than grammar aloneAI makes it simple for information to come to us in a much more structured and reasoned format. It distills information that would normally take a student hours to find and formulate, into a 2 minute exercise. However, the student has a greater challenge now in that they need much greater critical thinking skills to be able to use all this information and put their voice to it. This is how language teaching is developing. By using AI, teachers can create more engaged and motivated students, this is why I am excited. How critical thinking is developed on the course:Language teachers will learn how to build critical thinking into their lessons in simple, practical ways. AI becomes a helpful partner—adding new perspectives, saving time, sparking ideas, and opening up space for deeper thinking, richer conversations, and more meaningful learning. Here’s a glimpse of how AI can support critical thinking in the classroom—there’s plenty more to discover in the course:Create (Debate Arguments)AI generates ideas for both sides of a debateSuggests key points and elaborates with examplesProvides factual support for argumentsHelps structure arguments using cause and consequenceEvaluate (Testing for Bias)AI reviews language for bias or emotional toneFlags signs of partiality, preference, or prejudiceSupports students in revising for fairness and balanceAnalyze (Organizing Ideas)AI groups ideas by strength, perspective, or themeHelps identify patterns and opposing viewpointsAssists in sequencing arguments for clearer, more persuasive writingWhat the course package includes:20 lectures to watch at your own pace3 demo videos for using AI and critical thinking in 3 language lessons for A2, B1 and C1 Level12 Downloadable Resources and Worksheets6 Quizzes
