    Description

This course is designed to help students adjust to the 19 x 19 board. Playing games and studying problems can only get you so far. The trial by error method helped me reach 7k when I was a kid, but I needed to understand the basics of opening theory, direction of play, bases, checking extensions, invasions vs reductions, and attack and defense skills in order to break my road blocks. Once you finish this course you will have all the tools you need to progress to the Single Digit Kyu level and how to learn to self study the opening.Opening theory covers the concepts you will need to have a strong first 50 moves. Direction of play will help you understand the direction the stones want to develop. Having a strong sense for D.O.P will always show you were the most important part of the board is, so you will never feel lost. Bases are the building blocks of life and death. Having a strong base allows you to launch attacks without fear of dying. Checking extensions keep your opponents small and asks questions. Invasions are deep incursions within enemy groups. Reductions are safer than invasion, reducing your opponents potential. Learning how to attack properly is essential. And Defense is a key to the life and death of your stones. All these skills will be introduced and explained in detail.
