    Description

INTRODUCTION AND COURSE STRUCTUREThis course is structured for duration of 6 weeks, with flexible time frame for the student. It welcomes holders and students of Bachelor degrees, Diplomas, Researchers, Teachers, Lecturers, and anyone with interest in life sciences/biosciences, biomedical, health, inheritance, traits and family for resources and guide. You are welcome. In addition, it's open to anyone willing to learn about basics of Genetics. It presents fundamentals of genetics from its basic scientific definition, through principles and applications. This course brings to you, from my selfless presentation, the fundamentals of genetics from its basic scientific definitions, through principles in genetics and related applications. It presents and instructs on genetics in such a way that beginners of genetics who show interest or have looked for the opportunity are not left out, despite being an intermediate entry course. You can learn Genetics from the scratch through entry key definitions and historical lane of how genetics started evolving. From where it steps into growth of genetics following key cascades of discoveries, accompanied concepts, principles they form, onto some areas where they have been applied and can still be applied for medical (health), agricultural, environmental beneficial purposes. In this course, we will technically learn to:1). Define genetics, basic terminologies and describe the cell of living things. This is a foundational start-up to build upon with concepts and Principles in subsequent weeks.2). Explain laws of inheritance, related experiments, do simple calculations of probabilities and applications. This brings in foundational clues on inheritance in what is termed Mendelian inheritance from where scientists stepped up studies to better understand in heritable beyond this level- to be learnt in subsequent weeks.3). Discuss pedigree analysis in genetics, basic calculations, inherited and multi-factorial genetic disorders. This is useful for analysing family history in relation to genetic related traits4) Discuss gene interactions, basic bacteria genetics and viral genome. This brings in key concepts and the overall Principle in Non-Mendelian inheritance, with it's applications. Understanding Bacteria, Viral and Fungus genomes has helped in no small measure, in development of various gene therapies (such as those engaging therapeutic power of precise treatment tailored gene editing techniques) in patient specific treatments. This exploits key qualities of vectors like Bacterial Plasmids and viral vectors, Bioinformatics / Computational biology and their tools to bring in the power of gene therapeutic tools for treating some troublesome diseases.5). Explain genetic recombination in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, genetic and linkage maps, and sex linked inheritance. This alongside cencepts in gene interaction gives deeper clues on genetic diversity (variation) and useful in building parts of the metrics for developing genetic based diagnostic tools (genetic testing) for health benefits (in medical genetics) which will feature more in Genetics 2.6) Explain concept and reasons for variations in chromosome morphology and ploidy levels. Some exploitable features for developing crops and animals with desired traits like improved hybrid vigour through certain ploidy chromosomal sets are part of benefits of ploidy level genetics. You will get highlights of cell division by mitosis and meiosis, supported with animations to make easier to clearly understand within a short period on it. Details of this will come up in Genetics II with practical applications. In overview, this course aims to equip us with the basics of genetics, moving forward. On completing this course, it is recommended you proceed to Genetics II once it’s released on Udemy, to further equip and appropriately strengthen your understanding.Hoping you will enjoy it.Thank you, happy listening and learning.Good luck on your weekly study  on this course, and onto successful completion.Your education is your foundation and your career ideally is your masterpiece."The meeting of preparation with opportunity generates the offspring we call goodluck"A KEY NOTE: Please on successful completion of this course, kindly feel free to do review on the course content and presentations. Provide me with your review in the student feedback section, so I know which areas I should go deeper into if necessary and any adjustment that is necessary. Also, please don't forget to rate this course in the rating column. It's also part of review that I can work with as feedback. There is always room for subsequent improvement where necessary.Lastly, if you are satisfied or very satisfied (I can't know how much you are), don't forget to hit the good marks of rating on this course with your level of satisfaction. It's an open review I will receive as feedbacks to inform future work on this , as Genetics 2, is on the way with some hard-work also.Good luck and my appreciation indeed
