    Description

This course takes a holistic approach to teaching Financial Theory, by using practical real world examples throughout. The course goes over topics such as: Financial Assets, Financial Markets, Asset Pricing, Accounting Theory and Spreadsheets, eventually culminating in building a Discounted Cashflows (DCF) model for a real company at the end of the course. The practical focus that the course employs also teaches students to read real world financial documents through several examples of company financial statements, bond filings and so on. This allows students to more readily be able to map what they've seen in theory onto practical reality, which can often be more messy than theory would indicate. The course furthers this practical skills based approach by putting an emphasis on becoming proficient and confident in using Microsoft Excel towards the end of the course, a crucial and sought after skill in the financial industry that can help professional and individual investors alike. The course assumes no prerequisite knowledge, but builds up very quickly to more advanced ideas, meaning that even those with prerequisite knowledge of financial concepts stand to benefit from the course. This course is ideally suited for a broad range of students: Professionals moving into the financial industry looking for a leg up, individual investors seeking to professionalise their investing and beginners with a keen interest in finance can all benefit from the content taught.
