Description
Music, feeling, and fun. These are the first three words that come to mind for the "Feel the Music" course. They are also the words I would use to describe dancing, other than movement. They are the concepts which inspired me to create this course, and inspire my life! If these ideas inspire you, too, then read on!Who is the me behind these words? My name's Kristen, and let me start by saying that I love dancing. And music. I am a trained singer (university as well as the conservatory) and have studied many types of music (from musicals to jazz to opera.) But all through the vocal training I studied many types of dance as well (from modern to the blues to Lindy hop.)In the "Feel the music" course, we will start by breaking down the beat, making it bite size and easy to follow. Then, we will break down several songs so that we can really feel them and groove with them on the dance floor (or in your living room!) We will also learn the basic structure of a modern song so that we can apply it to various types of music. This will not only help you to flow with what you're listening to but also to picture where it's going so that you can move easier. We will practice this with different genres so that you are able to apply what you learn to your favorite songs. We will also follow different instruments first with our ear and then with our bodies. This exercise offers a way to listen to music so that we are inspired to create moves and gives us new ideas for the dance floor. We will also try to understand the story that the music tells through its instruments which will give us another lead to explore.Lastly, we will put all we've learned together and just dance! The goal is that this course will help you to feel more comfortable moving to music and give you some tools so you're not at a loss on the dance floor. The idea is that dancing will become a much more fun and rewarding experience!
