    Description

Equine assisted learning is an approach provided by credentialed professionals able to design and facilitate curriculum (e.g., special ed. teacher, experiential educator, instructor, life coach, etc.). It facilitates personal growth, education/knowledge, life skills and/or professional development. It is planned and guided by an EFL team, with an end goal in mind and involves framing and processing the participant’s equine interactions for the purpose of self-growth. The difference between EFL and other equine-assisted activities (riding, driving, interactive vaulting) is the focus, the goals and the curriculum. While the other activities focus on the skills needed to ride, drive or vault, EFL focuses on the interactions and relationships with the horses. When an appropriately credentialed professional in the activity is facilitating, the other activities can be incorporated into the EFL sessions to enhance the learning experience. Interactions with equines can help with the learning of many types of skills ranging from reading and math skills to self-care and social skills, to leadership qualities and teamwork. Because of this, there are also many different types of professionals who choose to incorporate EFL in their programs. Some professionals who use EFL are:• Teachers, Special Education Teachers• Equine Specialists• Experiential Educators• Equestrian Instructors (riding, driving, vaulting, etc.)• Recreational Therapists• Life Coaches• Ministers• Corporate Leadership Trainers• Mental Health Therapists (for activities outside of a client’s treatment plan work)• Occupational, Physical and Speech TherapistsAre you an equine assisted pactitioner (or practitioner in training) who needs some help with planning sessions?
