    Description

This course examines how principles from nature and living organisms inspire the design and control of next-generation robotic systems. It introduces the role of artificial intelligence (AI)—including machine learning and neural networks—in enhancing bio-inspired robotics, enabling the creation of adaptive, efficient, and intelligent machines capable of navigating complex environments. Ultimately, this serves as a first introduction to a fascinating field that will expand both your knowledge and your excitement for discovery.By the end of this course, participants will have gained a solid foundation in the field of bio-inspired robotics. They will be able to explore and explain key moments in the history of biomimetics, tracing how early ideas and natural observations have shaped modern robotics. Participants will develop a clear understanding of the biological systems that inspire robotic design—ranging from animal locomotion and sensory systems to adaptation and self-repair mechanisms—and how these principles are translated into engineering solutions. They will also acquire a broad knowledge of biomimetic applications across domains such as healthcare, environmental monitoring, and advanced technologies. Finally, students will be equipped to critically compare bio-inspired robotics with conventional robotics, identifying not only their differences in design, control, and efficiency, but also the unique benefits and future potential that bio-inspired approaches bring to the field.
