    Sarpedon | 1998 | ISBN: 1885119542 | English | 290 pages | PDF | 11 MB

Historians and laymen alike are familiar with many of the great battles on the Eastern Front. The names Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, Belorussia (Belarus today) and Berlin evoke vivid images of the fierce four-year struggle between the vaunted Wehrmacht (German Army) and the massive Red Army. In their memoirs famous German generals, such as Guderian, Mellenthin, Balck and von Manstein, recounted and extolled the exploits of bold commanders, daring tank leaders and tactically skilled soldiers struggling simultaneously against a numerous foe and a meddling political leader — Hitler. Their counterparts in the Red Army, such as Zhukov, Vasilevsky, Katukov, Batov and countless others, related their wartime experiences as well. In a view from the foxhole, private soldiers such as Guy Sajer and numerous Russians described the grandeur, brutalities and unmitigated horrors of the war. Finally, legions of historians and military 'buffs' on both sides wrote volumes on wartime campaigns, battles and operations.
