    Description

Yuck! germs! But are you curious about these invisible creatures that lurk everywhere on earth?Or do you ever wonder why we get sick? Then you've found the right course to learn more in this Introduction to Microbiology & Disease!Microbiology is the scientific study of microorganisms, those being unicellular, multicellular, or acellular. Microbiology affects every aspect of our lives from food, to medicines, to plant health and diseases. There are a number of microorganisms that make up the microbiome and in this course you will be introduced to the main organisms and some diseases associated with them. You will explore the history of microbiology and will learn about bacteria, viruses, fungi and some other core basic topics to introduce you to the field of microbiology.Throughout history there have been many examples where microbiology has emerged and developed and has led to the development into the present day branch of science that exists today. From the Greeks to the Romans all eras throughout history have been affect by these microorganisms all around us but without them and understand them we wouldn’t have oxygen, medicines, foods and life would not potentially exist. In this course you will be challenged to learn more about these microbes that live on, around and even inside us.
