HOW TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION: HOW TO OVERCOME DEPRESSION Damon Salvatore by Damon Salvatore

We're starting a very serious conversation … As the title of the book suggests, it's about depression. And although throughout the entire text I will, as usual, joke and have fun in every possible way (in my own, however, very specific manner), the subject of this presentation is by no means amusing. What is depression, truly understands only those who know about it firsthand. And it is useless to explain to the lucky one who has never drunk from this cup what the taste of the drink contained in it is. And those who know how much this pound of salt is simply obliged to have a good sense of humor (more precisely, irony and self-irony), because without it it is almost impossible to cope with depression. In formal scientific terms, depression is a depressed mood. But low mood, low mood strife. Each of us in our life has repeatedly been upset, fell into melancholy and cursed our fate on what the world stands, but not everyone knows what real depression is. When you just get upset, somewhere inside you you know well: this is temporary, it is not forever, “just unlucky,” this is a non-binding failure. In depression, everything is different, there is no "disorder" here, there is some kind of upset, it seems that you were taken and upset, like an old piano. This is not trivial bad luck, this is a feeling of hopelessness. What an ordinary person perceives positively, what makes him happy, what gives him confidence and hope, acts in the opposite way for a depressed patient. The whole world is repainted for him in black tones. Winston Churchill, who suffered from episodes of severe depression, called them "a black dog, just waiting to show his grin." Ernest Hemingway, whose depression ended in suicide, said -"These are my black-ass days." And in the song "Rolling Stones" there are words that reflect the perception of life by depressed patients: "I see a red door and I want to repaint it black."Finally, the outstanding American politician, the great President of the United States - Abraham Lincoln, tormented by depression, spoke terrible words in which one can feel the fatal doom: “Today I am the wretched person of all living. If my feelings were evenly distributed throughout the human race, there would not be a single smile on earth. Will I ever feel better? I do not know". And believe me that this phrase was not written for a catchphrase. This is the real, genuine and not feigned self-feeling of a person immersed in the darkness of depression.
