This book is for people who want to learn basic calculus in a very straightforward way but don’t like the kind of very formal language normally used in maths textbooks. Although calculus is one of the most important and powerful areas of mathematics, it is actually quite intuitive and the vast majority of people are more than capable of understanding it. We will try to explain things using 'common sense' analogies where possible. We will also use plenty of diagrams to make things easier to see. After reading this book, and working through the exercises, you should have an understanding of the basic concepts in calculus. Later books in the series will develop these concepts much more.
