Superconductivity - physical phenomenon observed in some materials (superconductors) under cooling them below a certain critical temperature T c, and consisting in the vanishing electrical DC resistance and ejection of the magnetic field from the sample volume (Meissner effect). The phenomenon was discovered in 1911 by H. Kammerling-Onnes. Studying the temperature dependence of the electric resistivity of Hg, he found that at a temperature below 4.22 K, Hg practically lost its resistance.
