I suffered from back pain for many years. It ranged from stiffness after lifting to sporadic pain in my toes and feet, end even sharp pain that would lay me down for days, and then vanish as suddenly as it had appeared.
But something else was happening around February 2015. It emanated from my spine which was degenerated and inflamed with arthritis. My back was sore, but something inside my spine had changed, and I had no idea what it was.
There were pinches and sharp pin prick pains in random places – face, eyes, stomach, and groin. Also my toes would get what felt like electric shocks. I felt numbness and tingling spreading to my legs and hands, and a vice like pain in my left forearm.
To this day I’m not sure what triggered my condition - I suspect that a few of my discs had bulged spontaneously, and that arthritis was running riot inside my spine. I had put on a positive face, but in reality I became depressed, and worried.
One day I was in the office when I felt a sharp stabbing pain inside my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack! I drove myself to the hospital.
In fact I didn’t have a heart attack. My pain was a bulging disc pressing on a nerve, which can cause the symptoms of heart pain.
Fast forward 6 months - I feel fitter, better and more optimistic than I ever did!
I am back at the gym, sitting in the office and lifting objects around the house. I have since had a lovely holiday in Cyprus with my family, sitting on a flight for 5 hours with no pain or discomfort and lugging heavy luggage around – two activities I never thought I’d be able to do again.
This is the story of how I did it. This is my story…
