Our Musical World, Book 5: The “Middle East” & North Africa - Poetry, Music, & the Quest for Purpose. Book 5 of this critically acclaimed series examines the depth, impact, and conflict of the human search for purpose, through the religions and cultures of – the Greater Middle East. The book explores both the diversity and inter-connectivity of cultures and religions, examines stereotypes & commonalities, scrutinizes the polarizing and inter-connecting relationships between this region and Western cultures, and suggest alternatives to the more divisive belief systems across much of our world today.
The Middle East & North Africa – uses video mini-documentaries and discussions of poetry and music to examine: Conflicts & Healing – the Armenian Genocide; Praise Songs, Sufi’s, Music & Islam: (the diverse relationships between diverse Islamic practices and use of music or art); A Discussion of Religious Chant – the importance of religious chant on our world’s music; Sacrificial Love – in the context of understanding Arabic & Persian poetry; Inter-cultural Exchange – the origins of the Orchestra (and a discussion of “world instrument” categories); and two diverse videos on Arab/Muslim Hip-hop and modern cultural exchanges across the Arabic Diaspora.
Our Musical World (OMW), Book 5 – makes profound inroads into the causes of human biases concerning religion and the potential means by which we can liberate ourselves from thousands of years of conflict that are not dignified representations of the Universal law that we: “treat others as we wish to be treated.”
