Nitric oxide is a small hydrophobic gas. It's a cell-signaling molecule. That means it "talks to" other molecules in your body and "directs" a vast array of biological processes. To list them all would take volumes. So I'm going to narrow it down to how nitric oxide affects body composition. Like adding muscle. And burning fat.
Nitric oxide regulates muscle contraction, signals the long-term adaptive response to exercise, controls nutrient delivery and uptake, creates "Hemodilation" (the widening of the blood channels), indirectly initiates fatty-acid oxidation, generates new muscle growth, and gives you the spectacular "Perpetual Pump." If you've read my "21-Day" book, you saw that I devoted over 40 pages to explaining each one of these functions in great detail. Heavy reading? Yes. But if you're interested in science at the molecular-level, pick up a copy! That's not the purpose of this book.
This book is about only two things. First, I want to show you all the new discoveries we've made about nitric oxide. Like I've said before, nitric oxide is a bewitching mystery. A complex puzzle, where you keep finding pieces in unexpected places. And since my 21-Day book, I've found some exciting new pieces for you. But don't worry, at the end of this section I'll give you a summary of all the benefits of nitric oxide as it affects your muscle physiology. Everything from what we knew before to what we know this very minute.
