Angina pectoris e-chart - Quick reference guide
Angina pectoris. Coronary disease is defined as any disorder caused by a restriction in blood supply to the heart muscle.
The most common manifestations are angina, or chest pain, and myocardial infarction (MI). Clinically, chest pain manifests as a transitory thoracic discomfort with sudden, episodic pain and respiratory distress. These symptoms occur as a result of an increase in myocardial oxygen demand and coronary stenosis. Typically, chest pain begins with attenuating or oppressive retrosternal pain, which may radiate to the neck, the mandible or the left arm. The pain rapidly subsides with rest. Exposure to cold or strong emotions can provoke chest pain.
